The Government Analyst and the Area Electrical Engineer are to visit the scene where over 60 shops gutted by fire in Bodhiraja Mawatha, Pettah last night, the police said.
The police have recorded statements from 16 shop owners at present and the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
The fire broke around 8.00pm and had swiftly spread to the line of shops. Colombo Fire Brigade with the help of the police and the people in the area had doused it within an hour.
Although the damage is not calculated yet millions of rupees worth goods have been reduced to ashes.
