Customs seize Rs.3.2m worth of Ethanol [December 27 2013]

Another stock of Ethanol illegally imported into the country worth of Rs.3.2million had been seized by the Customs Department today.

The consignment consisted of 80 barrels containing 16, 000liters of Ethanol had been declared as MDF boards.

The contraband in a container imported from Malaysia was searched open by the officials today at the Customs Container Yard at Orugodawatta.

Customs Spokesman Director Leslie Gamini said the government would have incurred a loss of Rs.10million tax revenue if the consignment went undetected.

Customs Director General Jagath P Wijeweera was also present at the moment.
