Cigarette smuggler nabbed by the Customs [January 17 2014]

A Sri Lankan male coming from Dammam, Saudi Arabia with a large stock of illicit cigarettes worth around Rs.600, 000 was arrested by the Customs at the Bandaranaike International Airport yesterday morning.

The Customs found 300 cartons of Gold Leaf concealed in his baggages that contained 60, 000 sticks, Customs Spokesman Director Leslie Gamini said.

Deputy Director of Customs Chathura Mohottige who conducted the inquiry forfeited the contraband and imposed a fine of Rs.150, 000.
