Signing a Memorandum of Understanding, Sri Lanka and Maldives have entred in to an agreement to combat transnational crimes. The agreement was following bilateral discussions between President Mahinda Rajapaksa and visiting Maldivian President Abdullah Yameen Gayoom.

Inspector General of Police N.K. Illangakoon signed on behalf of Sri Lanka and for Maldives, Commissioner of Police Hussaid Waheed signed.

The agreement comes in a time when transnational crimes are expanding and becoming more organised which needs a comprehensive and coordinated approach in combating crime at the regional level.
