Fire at new Military HQ complex [February 15 2014]

A sudden fire broke out at the new Military Headquarters complex being constructed in Akuregoda, Battaramulla this evening was brought under control by the fire brigade.

The fire which was reported around 5.26pm was doused by several teams sent from Colombo Fire Brigade as well as Sub Stations of Kotte and Dehiwala Municipal Councils.

Military Spokesman Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasuriya told the Sunday Observer that a pile of timber sheets being removed from a temporary structure built to lay the concrete of the second storey was caught in the fire.

The cause of the fire was not certain at the time this edition went to press. No casualties were reported in the fire.

Once construction is completed the complex will house headquarters for the three forces Army, Navy and Air Force.
