An old boy had been assaulted and trampled to death in a clash between the spectators of the limited overs cricket match between St Patricks College and Jaffna College yesterday afternoon, the police said.
The 23-year-old victim identified as Amalan of Martin Road, Jaffna, an old boy of St. Patricks College was assaulted by a group of old boys of the rival school. He was rushed to Jaffna Hospital but was pronounced dead at the time of the admission.
The victim had been trampled by a large number of spectators at the Jaffna College grounds in Wadukottai, eyewitnesses told the police. Jaffna Police are conducting investigations.
