A 22 -year-old female student attached to the Faculty of Arts of the University of Colombo was found hacked to death by an unidentified assailant in Elpitiya this morning.
The victim identified as Dimasha Gayanika Trimana was a resident of Talgaswala in Elpitiya, Police Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said.
Her body was found lying near Elpitiya Bus Stand around 6.00am yesterday by the people in the town who informed the police.
Severe gashes were visible all over her body which believed to have been made by a sharp blade.
Elpitiya Acting Magistrate Janaka Ruwanpura conducted the Magisterial Inquiry and ordered to transfer the corpse to Karapitiya Teaching Hospital for the post mortem.
Elpitiya Police conducting investigations arrested a man on suspicion who believed to be the victims boyfriend.
