Policewomen get slacks for the new uniform
[May 30 2014]

Sri Lankan policewomen are to get a new look soon with slacks being introduced to their new uniform instead of the traditional skirt.

The Police Department will introduce this new uniform in addition to the present uniform considering the practical difficulties policewomen face whilst conducting their duties.

The traditional uniform of skirt and shirt will continued to be worn by staff engaged in office duties whereas the trouser and shirt will be worn by those who are deployed in outdoor operational duties.

From Women Police Constables (WPC) to Women Police Sergeants (WPS) the uniform will be a shirt tucked into trousers and policewomen in the inspectorate and above will get a trouser and a bush coat.

The new Khaki uniform which is introduced by the IGP N K Illangakoon received approval from the Ministry of Law and Order. Another new uniform will also be introduced for the pregnant policewomen in the future.
