Customs seize Rs.20m worth Wallapatta [June 18 2014]

A man who attempted to smuggle a stock of high quality Wallapatta chips out of the country was arrested by the Customs Preventive Unit at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake this morning.

Customs Media Spokesman Director Leslie Gamini said the man was arrested with a bag weighing 20 kilograms of Wallapatta worth of Rs.20 million at the airport's departure lounge.

The suspect a resident of Grandpass was bound for Sharjah on a Qatar Airways flight at 4.35am.

The investigations are being carried out by Customs Superintendent Sudath Silva, Deputy Customs Supt. Upul Gonawala, Asst. Supt. Customs Harshana Kulasekara, Jeewantha Ahangama, Kushan Gunawardhana, Nirosh Kaviratna and Asanka Priyadharshana.
