41 arrested, 25 remanded in Aluthgama clashes [June 18 2014]

At least 41 persons have been taken into custody in connection with various unlawful activities that had been carried out during the past three days following the public unrest triggered over the clash of two groups in Aluthgama and Bentara areas, the police said.

Police Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana told the Sunday Observer that out of the arrested group 25 have been remanded after produced before respective judicial courts.

The police curfew that was imposed since 12 noon today will remain in the mentioned areas until further notice.

The general situation however seemed to be under control by additional police and STF troops summoned to the vulnerable areas except for few isolated incidents reported through out the day, the police said.

Three persons have been killed in the clashes with many others sustaining injuries up to now.
