Mahiyangana Pradeshiya Sabha member Watareka Vijitha Thera was found bound and dumped near Hirana Bridge in Bandaragama this morning, the police said.
The Thera had been admitted to Panadura Hospital by Bandaragama Police with minor injuries which were believed to have been caused by assault. He was later transferred to National Hospital Colombo.
The Thera who was in the centre of a controversy following his recent encounter with the members of the Bodu Bala Sena is reportedly out of danger.
Bandaragama Police is conducting investigations under an ASP as to who is responsible for the abduction and assault of the Buddhist monk.
