Former Sri Lankan High Commissioner to India Prasad Kariyawasam has been appointed as the new Ambassador to the United States of America, External Affairs Ministry sources said.
Ambassador Kariyawasam assumed his duties at the Sri Lankan Embassy in Washington D. C. on Monday and is to hand over his credentials to President Barack Obama at his Oval Office in White House on July 14.
Meanwhile Prof. Sudharshan Seneviratne has been appointed as the new Sri Lankan High Commissioner to India.
Prof. Seneviratne is an eminent scholar who received his tertiary education in India. He was also the Head of the Department of Archaeological at the University of Peradeniya for nearly ten years.
