Rs.50m worth of gold jewellery seized [July 09 2014]

Western Province South Special Crimes Detection Unit investigating into a jewellery shop robbery in Moratumulla on May 25th seized Rs.50 million worth of stolen gold jewellery, the police said.

Two suspects who robbed the shop and fled with jewellery weighing around 11 kilograms was also arrested by the police. They had reportedly pawned the gold in several places in Dikwella and Weligama.

Police recovered nine kilograms of the stolen jewellery. This was the largest ever gold jewellery robbery reported in the history.
