Two drowns after boat capsized off Moratuwa [September 11 2014]

At least two drowned and two others were rescued when a fishing boat returning to the shore capsized off the seas of Moratuwa Fisheries Harbour this morning, the police said.

Four fishermen who were residents of Koralawella had left for fishing last evening and were reportedly returning around 6.30am when their boat had capsized near the estuary.

All four were washed ashore and they were rushed to Panadura Hospital. Two of them were pronounced dead upon admission. One of the surviving victims had been admitted to Intensive Care Unit whilst the other had left after treatment.

The deceased had been identified as Dixon Fernando (76) of Koralawella and Sirisen Fernando (48) of the same area.
