Pope to celebrate mass in Colombo [September 12 2014]

His Holiness Pope Francis who is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka in January next year will say a mass at the Galle Face Green and conduct a prayer service at Madhu Shrine.

The Pope will arrive in the country at 9.00am on January 13th and will be welcomed at a state reception at the Bandaranaike International Airport, Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith announced today at a press briefing.

The Pontiff will proceed along the Negombo Road to Colombo and meet the Arch Bishop. In the afternoon he will pay courtesy visit to President Mahinda Rajapaksa. Holly Father is also expected meet with all the local religious leaders at the BMICH.

His Holiness will canonise Blessed Joseph Vaas at the Galle Face Green followed by a mass at 8.30am on January 14th and will hold the prayer service at Madhu Shrine at 3.30pm on the same day.

The Pope will leave for Manila on January 15th morning.
