Container load of undeclared cosmetics seized

<P>A forty-foot container carrying cosmetic goods, foot-wear and soothers valued at Rs.20 million had been seized by the Customs Preventive Division today, Customs Spokesman Leslie Gamini said.

The contraband had been imported declared as cotton threads for tea bags and the evaded payment of duty and other levies were about Rs.12 million, he said.

A tea company based in Colombo which had duty free concession to import raw material to re-export after value addition under the Temporary Importation for Export Processing (TIEP) Scheme had imported the container.
