A 22-year-old male youth who tried to blackmail young women by threatening to upload their nude pictures on Facebook, if they failed to see him in private was arrested by the CID today, the police said.
The CID acting on a complaint lodged by a local girl studying in Australia, who had returned to the country recently on a vacation, arrested the man from Panadura. The police found a sophisticated mobile phone and a laptop he had used to chat with unknown females on the Facebook.
The suspect had send messages to the complainant threatening that he is possessing her nude pictures and will upload them on the web if she failed to meet him in private. Likewise he had threatened another girl sometime back.
The police found pictures stored in a pen drive belonging to the suspect that he was abusing several other girls studying at leading schools in Colombo, who had met him following his threats.
He was produced before Colombo Chief Magistrate Courts today and remanded till September 29.
