Wet weather to continue - Met Dept. [October 08 2014]

The prevailing showery weather will continue for the next 24 hours in many parts of the country, the Meteorological Department announced today.

The depression in the South-east Bay of Bengal has intensified into a cyclonic storm and it is expected to move towards Indian east coast.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.

Showers may spread to the North-Western province too. Heavy rain falls more than 100mm are also likely at some places. Wind speed can strengthen over the island and surrounding sea areas. Thundershowers will develop at several places elsewhere during the afternoon or evening.

There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers. General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize the damages caused by lightning activities.
