Placing of omniscient sacred relic at Sandahiru Seya [November 22 2014]

A religious ceremony is due to be held to place an omniscient sacred relic in the hemispherical dome of the Sandahiru Seya tomorrow (23) under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa in Anuradhapura.

The ceremony will take place with the participation of 6,500 members of the Maha Sangha. The Sandahiru Seya is 255 feet in width and 279 feet in height.

The Stupa has been constructed opposite the Sri Sarananda Pirivena in Anuradhapura. The government has planned to erect nine Stupas in each province of the country in appreciation of the noble service rendered by the armed forces and Police to defeat terrorism and bring lasting peace to the country. Sanda Hiru Seya is the first phase of this project and the construction of the Stupa is underway on the directions of Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

A seven-day pirith chanting ceremony started on November 15 to invoke blessings for the event.
