Air Force to assist in repairing damaged houses [December 13 2014]

The Air Force will take steps to repair and reconstruct houses that were damaged during the aircraft crash at Hokandara in Athurugiriya. “This will be done through the Directorate of Civil Engineering within the next few days,” said Air Force spokesman Wing Commander Gihan Seneviratne.

This will be in addition to the compensation given to house owners in due course. “Paying compensation will be done as soon as protocol is cleared,” Wing Commander Seneviratne said.

An Antonov AN-32 belonging to the Sri Lanka Air Force No.2 squadron crashed in Hokandara, Athurugiriya on its way to Ratmalana airport from its base at Katunayake, yesterday morning. A few houses close to the crash site were damaged. No civilian casualties or deaths were reported.
