Police seize 75, 000 Divi Neguma certificates

<p>Police seized a large stock of Divi Neguma Certificates and almanacs from a storeroom in Ampara District Secretariat this morning, the police said.  

<p>Acting on a complaint lodged by former JVP Ampara District Parliamentarian Piyatissa, the police searched a storeroom in the District Secretariat and found the items.  

<p>The police found 75, 000 Divi Neguma Certificates and 65, 000 almanacs.  

<p>When asked Ampara District Secretary Neil de Alwis has told the police that the Samurdhi Officer attached to the District Secretariat had received the documents on January 01. 

<p>The District Secretary had however ordered the Samurdhi Officer not to distribute them as the Presidential Election was coming up on January 08.  

<p>Ampara Police are conducting further inquiries.
