Ballot papers of nearly 10,000 displaced persons in the Puttalam District have been delivered and they have been assigned polling booths close to their residences to exercise their franchise at tomorrow’s Parliamentary Elections, Assistant Commissioner of Elections (ACE) for the Vanni Electoral District A.O.M.Nafeel told the Sunday Observer. Although there is provision for arranging transport for the physically handicapped to and back from polling stations, no applications have been received in the Vanni electoral district, he said.

ACE for Jaffna T. Agilan said 147 physically handicapped voters had applied for transport facilities in the Jaffna electoral district and accordingly, buses or other transport modes will be provided for tomorrow’s polls, he said. Similar transport facilities will be provided to those displaced from the High Security Zone (HSZ) areas in Karaveddi, Koppay, Point Pedro, Sangilippai and Uduvil Pradeshiya Sabha Divisions now living in other places as Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

They will be transported to the polling booths of their former places of residences and brought back, ACE Agilan said.
