FM to review overseas missions [December 13 2015]

The Foreign Ministry is in the process of reviewing its foreign missions overseas in an attempt to assess the importance for some of which there ‘exists no clear rationale,’ Minister Mangala Samaraweera told Parliament this week.

The Minister said the Government intends to introduce Non-Resident Ambassadors in an attempt to cut down costs. “We will review the current missions overseas and if there was a need we might close down a few Missions before we open others,” for the Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Mahishini Colonne told the Sunday Observer.

She added the Minister was referring to a short-term and long-term restructuring process which will review existing missions overseas.
