CSE introduces new sector

The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) introduced a Power and Energy sector with the listing of the power generation company, Lakdhanavi Ltd. last week.

The CSE had previously classified its listed companies into 16 sectors such as Banking, Finance and Insurance and Food and Beverages. With this latest addition, the CSE will now have 17 sectors. It also publishes an index for each of these sectors.

Lakdhanavi is a public utility company which was incorporated in 1996. It has a 22.5 mega watt thermal power generation plant that supplies power to the national grid. It is the first private sector thermal power plant set up under build-own-operate status in the country.

Lakdhanavi was quoted on the CSE by way of an introduction, where the company is listed without the requirement of a public issue.
