Record income for Textile Training and Services Centre The Textile Training and Services Centre (TT&SC) recorded an income of Rs. 2.4 million during November 2001, which is the highest income it has achieved. Around 60 per cent of its income is achieved through services provided to the industry, a TA&SIC news release said. A ceremony was held recently to award the ISO 9001,2000 certificate to the TT&SC testing laboratory and to award certificates to students who had completed the Certificate in Textile Technology course. Two groups of students who had completed the full-time course which is of one-year duration received certificates on the occasion. The TT&SC, which comes under the Ministry of Industrial Development, was established in 1984 to provide training, consultancy and testing services to the textile and garment industry. It has conducted many training programmes for industry personnel in various technical and managerial areas. The laboratory provides testing services to the industry, thus saving foreign exchange and facilitating the industry to achieve test certificates without delay. "The garment industry, which brings around 50 per cent of the country's total export earnings, provides direct employment to around 300,000 people. The quota system is expected to come to an end by the year 2005. Therefore, it is necessary to upgrade the quality of our products to compete in the open market," the release said. |
