Counselling service to enhance employee well-being Commercial Bank of Ceylon Ltd., has trained a group of employees in general counselling skills to further enhance employee well-being. A group of 21 employee counsellors who completed a 12-day training course on counselling took their oaths to uphold the code of ethics of counselling and were awarded certificates at a ceremony held recently. Speaking on the occasion, Managing Director of Commercial Bank, Amitha Gooneratne said: "The high degree of productivity and quality improvements demanded under the prevailing socio-economic climate has necessitated maintaining a balance in the mental and physical health of employees. With this in mind, we have now trained our own Employee Counsellors to help our employees to cope with stressful situations, grasp the reality of problems or situations and help them arrive at solutions and lead contended lives." "Commercial Bank invests a considerable amount of money on the development of human resources. We know it will continue to pay rich dividends," Mr. Gooneratne said. These Employee Counsellors received an insight to the counselling mechanism, stress, its effects and its management and training on a range of counselling skills and limitations to the counselling process. The course was organised by the Staff Development Centre of Commercial Bank. It was conducted by the Institute for Occupational Health and Safety, under the guidance of the Institute's Executive Director Dr. S. Rathanapriya. |
