The 'Gypsies' Embrace E-Commerce

The pop music group 'Gypsies' went hi-tech when they launched their e-commerce site recently with a hi-tech musical concert at the BMICH. The concert was webcast live over the Internet and watched by thousands of fans from various parts of the world.

Lanka Internet, the official Internet service provider to Gypsies, showcased some of the latest features of Internet technology on stage.

Gypsies leader Sunil Perera launched their e-commerce site on stage and Harsha Arambewela Lanka Internet's Assistant Manager - Web and Online Solutions explained the features of the e-commerce site, eg. the facility to make international and local bookings for the band, provide a live communication channel for fans from across the world to communicate with Gypsies band members and the ability to live webcast selected Gypsies concerts which take place in Sri Lanka.

The group can now market their albums or CDs both internationally and locally using the Internet payment gateway in the e-commerce site.

Gypsies going hi-tech has given the lead to other Sri Lankan musicians in marketing Sri Lankan music internationally and propelling the Sri Lankan music industry to a foreign exchange earning sector.
