Suntel scholarship for Moratuwa University students The University of Moratuwa's Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering is said to turn out some of the country's best graduates. To encourage and motivate these students to do even better, Suntel has implemented a scholarship award for the Best Student from the first year. This year, the award went to Sugith Rogitha Pinto and Fazal Khaffar,who have emerged the best students of their batch, with the best aggregate marks for the year. As part of this award, each student will receive a stipend of Rs. 5,000 for the next one year. This, Suntel hopes, will enable the students to do much better in the three years to come, during the course of which, Suntel offers a six-month intensive 'in-plant training', Suntel's General Manager - Human Resources, Janaka Kumarasinghe said about the reason for instituting this award: "More than 50 per cent of our engineers come from the University of Moratuwa. We aim to motivate students through this award and hope that more students will seek to strive harder and do better in the field of electronics and telecommunications engineering." Suntel also sponsors career fairs, guest lectures, curriculum development and similar programmes which have greatly benefitted students. The company currently has 40 trainees from various universities and technical colleges undergoing internship. Suntel launched its services in 1994, in partnership with Telia AB, the national telecom operator of Sweden, Metropolitan Group of Companies, Townsend Limited of Hong Kong and the International Finance Corporation, a member of the World Bank Group. |
