More winners expected from Saturday Fortune The number of winners of the Saturday Fortune ticket of the Development Lotteries Board is expected to increase by more than 100 per cent due to the Board increasing the total pay-out by 50 per cent. The lottery ticket was launched last week with a new face, new prize structure and a higher prize pay-out. The objectives of the new Saturday Fortune ticket are to increase the quantum of prizes going to the masses from the current 49 per cent to 50 per cent, to increase the current number of winners by 100 per cent, to create more new customers by introducing new designs and prize structures and to increase the market share for the ticket. Instant lottery tickets were released to the market soon after the Development Lotteries Centre was established in 1983. A new ticket, Saturday Fortune, was launched in 1987 and Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation began telecasting the draw live on Saturday. A computer-based bar coding system and a bonus number in addition to the five winning numbers are some of the features that the ticket has seen over the years. Another ticket in a different colour was also introduced for a draw every Wednesday due to overwhelming demand. The prize money could be paid in 15 minutes as the whole system, from printing to prize pay-out, is computer based. Distribution is carried out island-wide by over 30 distributors and over 2000 dealers. The draws are telecast live on television every Wednesday and Saturday. |
