Lankan appointed Vice President of UFTAA Mr. Udaya Nanayakkara, a well-known personality in the aviation, travel and tourism industry has been appointed as the Vice President of the Universal Federation of Travel Agents Associations (UFTAA), in Monaco. This is the first time a Sri Lankan had been appointed to this post. Mr. Nanayakkara is the immediate Past President of Travel Agents Association of Sri Lanka, Past President of the Sri Lanka Association of Airline Representatives, and the founder President of the International Air Transportation Association (IATA) Agents Association of Sri Lanka, committee members of Ceylon Chamber of Commerce. UFTAA comprises over 101 national associations as its members. Its primary objective is to act as the governing institution with regard to regularising the act of national associations, formulating codes of conduct for the industry and industry liaison associations, IATA, International Hotels and Restaurants Association, International Rail Association, Inter Road Transportation Association, World Cruise Association, International Civil Aviation Organisation, World Tourism Organisation, European Commission and United Nations as well as conducting awareness programmes and human resource development programmes of relevance for the industry. Mr. Nanayakkara's appointment was made at the Annual General Assembly held in Tunisia recently. He has been on the UFTAA Board in varied capacities since 1997. |
