13 new Brigadiers by Ramani Kangaraarachchi Thirteen Colonels of the Sri Lanka Army including a woman have been promoted to the rank of Brigadier on Friday. They were Colonels J. Jayasooriya, M.P. Samarasinghe, R.M. Jayasinghe, A.R. Zacky, J.P.S. Liyanage, L.M. Samaraweera, A.S.M. Zaheer and S.M. Rajapakshe. Those officers promoted belong to the Intake 10,11,12. Apart from them, there are four direct enlisted officers as well. They are Colonels L.M. Tennakoon, S.G. Sooriyaarachchi, K.D. Tilakaratne and the only woman officer Mohanthi Peiris. Mohanthi Peiris is the second woman Brigadier in the Legal Directorate of the Sri Lanka Army, the first being a Brigadier, the late General L. Wijeratne's wife, Indira Wijeratne. More vacancies have been rendered with the retirement of two Brigadiers, Bandula Ranasinghe and Palitha Fernando and two Major Generals, A. Suriyabandara and G. Mutaliff, according to Defence sources. |
