Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe greets the newly appointed head of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission, retired Norwegian Army General Trond Furuhovde, when the latter met the Premier at ‘Temple Trees’ on arriving in Sri Lanka yesterday to begin his delicate task of monitoring the ceasefire between the Government forces and the LTTE. Economic Reforms, Science & Technology Minister Milinda Moragoda was also present. Mr. Furuhovde was accompanied by Helge Syversen, and Svein Marius Myklebust.

Ceasefire monitoring begins

A key figure in the ceasefire process, retired Norwegian Army General Trond Furuhovde, who will lead the ceasefire monitoring body, arrived in Colombo yesterday morning and immediately went into conference with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Tyronne calls for anti-terror action

Foreign Minister Tyronne Fernando urged the Commonwealth meeting in Brisbane, Australia, yesterday to adopt extra measures to deal with the problem of terrorism. The Foreign Minister was making his address to Commonwealth sessions in which he briefed the gathering of leaders from 54 nations on the on-going peace process in Sri Lanka.
