Debt relief grant from Japan Japan has given Rs 29 million to Sri Lanka as a debt relief grant. The grant will make adjustments to the past bilateral aid from Japan to Sri Lanka to relieve the debt repayment difficulties Sri Lanka is likely to face. The grant has been extended, a news release from the Japanese Embassy said. Since cash grants are untied, it will enable the recipient country to purchase goods such as vehicles, locomotives or spare parts from other countries, thus lessening the international balance of payment difficulties. "It is the earnest wish of the Japanese government that these grants together with other Japanese Development Assistance to Sri Lanka will promote further development and prosperity of the country," the release has said. |
