The Tea Factory Hotel at Kandapola has won the 'UNESCO Asia Pacific Heritage Merit Award 2001' for the impressive conversion of a dilapidated Tea Factory into luxury hotel complex thereby demonstrating a challenging adaptive re-use project carried out with commendable skill and vision.

Following the receipt of the UNESCO award and other awards. The Tea Factory Hotel is making elaborate arrangements to celebrate the occasion at the April season this year, General Manager, The Tea Factory Hotel, Roshan Fernando said.

The Tea Factory awaits your arrival this April for a quiet and relaxed week-end away from the busy schedule of your work place. The traditional plantation, where development has not overtaken the normal life style and where the natural beauty of its surroundings are preserved. For nature lovers, undiscovered spots of beauty are there to be explored where generation of British planters have reamed. Do not forget to equip yourself with binoculars and cameras for an unforgettable journey through the past, this April season, walking through horse tracks along the plantation located at 6,800 feet above sea level. If you want to experience life in a remote hamlet, it is located just 2 hours away from the hotel, it is a half a days outing to Kurawatte Village, located in Uva Paranagama, or climb Denmark Hill, another view point of the Hethersett Plantation reserve.

The latest concept offered to guests this April season will be the Kennel facilities. 'We will look after your pet dogs', Roshan Fernando said. Enjoy your stay at The Tea Factory Hotel with your pets, give them a holiday, enjoy nature walks with dogs.

For lovers of rides we have ponies half breeds, explore the horse tracks of Hethersett past. We have the toughest treks for mountain biking. Listen to stories of the past history of tea, specially related by our story teller. Old photographs of the 30's will be exhibited for guests who wish to go through past memory lane. A fine selection of books will be available to refer about the heritage of tea, railway, Nuwara Eliya etc. These are some of the new things we have planned for your repeat visits to the Tea Factory. If you have never been here before, there are lot more to be enjoyed apart from what we have listed, Fernando said.

April 27 will be the toughest mountain bike race held in the highest elevation in the surroundings of the Tea Factory and Concorda Estate managed by Udapussellawa Plantations. According to Mr. Bluck of Adventure Tours, this is going to be one of the best tracks available in Sri Lanka which will attract many mountain bike enthusiasts from all over the world.

The hotel like no other, rolls the red carpet for our special guests this April Season. Do not miss this year's April feast says Roshan Fernando.
