Awards for industrial excellence

The Ceylon National Chamber of Industries (CNCI) launched the 'CNCI Achiever of Industrial Excellence' awards last week to honour and recognise businesses which have contributed to the development of industry in Sri Lanka.

The awards ceremony will be held on July 19 at the Ceylon Continental Hotel.

Vice Chairman CNCI and Chairman Awards Committee Sunil Liyanage said this programme was initiated to felicitate companies which have contributed towards keeping Sri Lanka's economy afloat. "They had worked not just harder, but smarter to jump-start the economy," he said.

Over 40 awards will be presented at the event. They will be categorised as large, small, medium and micro for the 'Sri Lankan National Award' for which Gold, Silver, Bronze and two merit awards will be presented in each category and medium, small and micro for 'Provincial Award' where Gold, Silver, Bronze and merit awards will be presented in each category. The best provincial awards will also be considered for the national award. The companies will be evaluated on their performance during the last three years.

"This scheme is not confined to local companies. We have also invited the other SAARC countries to take part and winners of each country will receive a Gold award.

"Sri Lankan industries operating in another SAARC country are also entitled to awards. There are many Sri Lankans who have succeeded in overseas ventures and they have to be recognised for these achievements. For this award, we would be considering companies in the SAARC region with over 50 per cent Sri Lankan ownership and where the chief executive officer or general manager is a Sri Lankan," Liyanage said.

Delegates from these countries will also be in Sri Lanka for the event. CNCI is hoping to arrange one-to-one meetings with them for local industrialists.
