Balloons for high-profile advertising

by Jayanthi Liyanage

ADTECH Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. has introduced in Sri Lanka what is viewed by the millennium-age corporate big wigs as the newest and the most striking mode of high-profile advertising - ballooning.

At Supercross 2002, to be conducted today by the Sri Lanka Army Motor Sports Club, ADTECH will feature the hot air balloon as an ingenious TV platform, doing away with the usual helicopter or the aeroplane.

A few weeks ago, ADTECH's Managing Director, Capt. Anil R. Jayasinghe took his first ceremonial venture into the Colombo skies in a hot air balloon, after signing a deal with Packwell Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. for a three-year period of balloon advertising for Packwell and its subsidiary, Vision Packaging (Pvt) Ltd. Another long-term deal with National Lotteries Board is in the offing. "It is only for a selected few," Capt. Jayasinghe emphasised.

Raju Mathew, CEO Packwell Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. said that at a time many corporate giants were doubtful about sponsoring an advertising project of such daring nature, Packwell was glad it had accepted the challenge. "By ballooning, we are creating an identity as one of the biggest packaging companies in the country. This goes beyond mere sales," he stressed.
