The Nihon Karate-do Kenshin Kai Sri Lanka Branch will be conducting its championship on 31st March, 2002 from 9.00 a.m. onwards at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium. The championship is organised by Sensei M. N. Thassim, Chief Instructor/Representative of N. K. K. Sri Lanka Branch.

A large number of karatekas are expected to participate in this championship in Kata and Kumite in age group from 9 years to 19 years and kyu grades above 19 years according to weight class.

According to Shihan Satoshi Nishitani, 8th Dan Black Belt and Grandmaster of Nihon Karate - do Kenshin Kai - Japan every effort is taken by the Sri Lanka Branch to teach karatekas at school level. As it is, karate - do has become a popular sport in schools and in order to encourage the younger age group there would be a special grade known as the 'Pee Wee' category for members under 9 years.

Healthy competition is expected from karatekas from affiliated dojos and there would also be a karate demonstration. The chief guest will be Mohamed Maharoof Minister of Urban Development and Public Utilities.
