Mahela 274 helps SSC to get 1st innings win

Mahela Jayawardena hit a career-best double hundred (274) to enable SSC to obtain first innings victory and also to place the side for an outright victory against Tamil Union in their Premier Super League semi-final match played at the Maitland Place yesterday.

Mahela unbeaten 170 on Friday, added 104 runs to make a superb 274 which contained 31 fours and 4 sixes. He faced 296 balls batted for 409 minutes.

SSC in reply to Tamil Union 386, scored a massive 561 for 4 wkts declared. Tamil Union in their second innings, were 145 for 5 at close, still needing 30 runs to make SSC bat again.
