Expedite peace process, TNA tells UNF The Tamil National Alliance has urged the United National Front Government of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to expedite the peace process, following the views expressed by LTTE leader V. Prabhakaran at the press briefing in Vanni last week. On behalf of the Tamil National Alliance, the Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) parliamentarian from the Batticaloa District, Joseph Pararajasingham, told the 'Sunday Observer' the whole world was expecting the stance of LTTE leader V. Prabhakaran on the North-East issue. "He has already indicated what he really expects as a solution to the North-East crisis. Therefore, the Government of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe should prepare itself to begin the journey to find a political solution. "With the support of the international community. We could hardly see any setback on the attempts made for a political solution, 'Pararajasingham said, before setting off to Vanni with the fourteen-member Tamil National Alliance parliamentarians to meet the LTTE leader V. Prabhakaran last Friday. The People's Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE) leader and the Vanni district parliamentarian, D. Sitharthan, said: "The LTTE leader V.Prabhakaran in his press briefing had indicated two options to resolve the North-East crisis - one for a solution within the framework of a united Sri Lanka and the other, for a separate state. "Our party does not see any big change in the attitude of the LTTE, but the only encouraging thing is that the LTTE leader's focus more on the political side than on his usual military stance". The Eelam People's Democratic Party (EPDP) leader and the Jaffna District parliamentarian, Douglas Devananda, said: "The LTTE leader Prabhakaran has pointed out the need for an interim administration for the North-East. But the EPDP had suggested this long time ago, with a view to solving the problems of the North-East people. But now it appears that the LTTE leader wants an interim administration to strengthen himself and his party and not to look into the core issues of the war ravaged North-East. Our party believes that Mr. Prabhakaran has still a long way to go before becoming a fully-fledged democrat," Mr. Devananda said. |
