Cowardice morale boosted?

An Army Officer withdrawn from an elite Army unit on grounds of cowardice has now been brought back to the same force causing much demoralisation among the troops. Military circles are shocked by the move and are worried about the effect on troops' morale. The former commanding officer of a crack unit had previously been severely warned and sent back to his mother unit for the offence of leaving his battalion while stationed at the battle front.

The officer in question had been posted to the Jaffna frontlines during a crucial period of fighting for special duty after the fall of the Elephant Pass camp. But he had informed his superior officer that he lacked confidence and was unable to perform his duties as required. He had been severely warned at that time and sent back to his mother unit. His mother unit later assigned him to a non-combatant role in the South. Army circles are now perturbed about this officer being suddenly sent back to the elite unit notwithstanding his past record of unreliability under fire.
