Election- related incidents Ninety-two cases of election-related incidents were reported from Ratnapura, Moneragala, Chilaw, Nattandiya and Puttalam areas - the highest number of incidents involved threats with firearms, mischief and breach of the Elections Law (impersonation). DIG (Elections), Gamini Nawaratne, told the "Sunday Observer" that about ten persons had been arrested on flagrant violation of the Elections Law and the police, on the directive of the IGP, would take action against the arrested before May 29th. He also said that the police had received about 132 complaints altogether before and after the election, the nature of the election-related incidents recorded by the Police being mischief, simple hurt, misbehaviour, threats with firearms and impersonation. Complaints received by the police from political parties were: PA 27, UNP 26, JVP 27, SLMC 02, party not given 48 and independent 03. |
