Faisz Musthapha presents credentials to Queen by Reggie Fernando, our London Correspondent Last Wednesday, Sri Lanka's new High Commissioner to the Court of St. James (Great Britain), Mr. Faisz Musthapha P.C., presented his credentials to Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace. High Commissioner Musthapha, attired in a black sherwani, and Mrs. Fathima Musthapha, in pleasant purple, rode to the palace in one of the Queen's horse - drawn carriages with the Marshall of the Diplomatic Corps, Sir Anthony Figgis, KCVO, CMG, in attendance. At the unique and solemn ceremony, the Queen, having sat with the High Commissioner and Mrs. Musthapha for photographs had discussed Sri Lanka's peace process and its merits. The Sunday Observer understands that the Queen was extremely happy that hostilities had ceased and progress towards a permanent peace was being made. Two other royal carriages took the diplomatic officers of the High Commission to the palace. They were: Jayantha Palipana (Deputy High Commissioner), Magedera Gamage (Minister Commerce), W. Hettiarachchi (Minister/Counsellor), K. W. S. Gauthamadasa (Counsellor/Consular Affairs), D. W. J. Jinadasa (First Secretary/Commerce), M. B. Segismail (Attache), F. Tillekeratne (Attache) and Mrs. H. M. Perera (Attache). On the High Commissioner's return from Buckingham Palace a party was held at the High Commission to celebrate the occasion. Among the distinguished guests were Sri Lanka Foreign Minister Tyronne Fernando and that great friend of Sri Lanka, Lord Naseby. |
