More helpers at Moratuwa Sports Club A Sunday Observer reader N. T. B. Fernando writes in to say that there were some omissions that had crept into the article about Moratuwa Sports Club that appeared in the Sunday Observer of June 2. The facts, figures and names were sent to us from Moratuwa Sports Club for the article, but accepting the fact that there may have been errors in the article, the corrections have been taken note of and produced... The Stadium and park have not been named after Sri Lanka's greatest philanthropist Charles Henry de Soysa, but after another Moratuwa philanthropist A. H. T. de Soysa who not only donated land for the park but also the Club Pavilion. Talking of Presidents of the club, any history of the club will be incomplete without a reference to Chrisantha de Silva - a past President who held the post for many years and worked tirelessly for the upliftment of the club. It is said that there were some names that were left out from the list of those who helped Moratuwa Sports Club - Terrence Peiris, K. W. Dharmapala - a former Prefect of Games of Prince of Wales and among the cricketers, Maurice Jaldin, Jinadasa de Silva, Kingsley Fernando, Rex Silva, Lynton de Silva, R. M. Fernando, Hyasti Aponso, D. C. V. Perera, H. A. Mendis, Gamini Perera (of Moratu Vidyalaya), Annesley Fernando, Asith Wasantha, Srinath Silva, Sumane Jayawickrema, Priyantha Jayasekera, Sriyan Samararatne, Leslie de Silva and Ajith Cooray. |
