NAASU Age Group Meet in July

by LESLIE FERNANDO

National Amateur Aquatic Sports Union (NAASU) has decided to conduct FINA (world controlling body for aquatic sports) Diving Judging Clinic and Synchronised Swimming coaching clinic on the last week of July at the Sugathadasa Stadium Swimming Pool. Won Sue Kut, FINA Technical Committee member and Vice President, Asian Swimming Federation will be in-charge of the two clinics.

In the last week in May NAASU conducted a FINA Referees Clinic at the Sugathadasa Stadium Conference hall and 28 attended.

NAASU has made arrangements to appoint a national swimming coach shortly. According to a senior official of NAASU, a former star swimmer Julian Bolling and Ranil Gunasena of Ambalangoda fame have held the post a couple of years back. But the previous NAASU regime did not appoint a national swimming coach. It is reliably understood that former national swimmer E. G. A. Wilson, present Royal swimming coach is tipped for the post.

NAASU executive committee also plans to appoint waterpolo, diving and synchronised swimming coaches soon.

Former Royal swimmer and national waterpolo player, Nethru Nanayakkara will accompany the solitary swimmer Conrad Francis to the Commonwealth Games to be held in Manchester in July/August as the Manager.
