Pakistan urges restraint after plane downed ISLAMABAD, June 8 (Reuters) Pakistan Foreign Minister Abdul Sattar on Saturday called for restraint between nuclear-armed rivals India and Pakistan after Pakistani forces shot down an alleged Indian spy plane. "Pakistan continues to exercise restraint and responsibility in order to prevent any aggravation of the situation," Sattar told reporters before meeting Bangladeshi Foreign Minister M. Morshed Khan. "In a situation like this, responsible states must exercise utmost care to ensure that no provocation be made that might lead to escalation," he said. Pakistan said its air force jets shot down an unmanned Indian spy plane on Friday, close to the town of Raja Jang, south of the Pyunjab provincial capital, Lahore. The downing of the plane came amid U.S. diplomatic efforts to cool tensions between the old foes which have massed a million soldiers along their borders. |
