Gerry Vaidyasekera - oldest contributor to Wisden Remember veteran cricket correspondent 86-year-old Gerry Vaidyasekera? Well he is Wisden's oldest contributor. He has been writing for 47 years and set to celebrate his golden jubilee as a contributor for Wisden Almanack. This has been confirmed by Graeme Wright - the Editor of Wisden. Wright, however, has one regret - that he will not be in charge of Wisden at the time that Gerry Vaidyasekera will be celebrating his golden jubilee with the prestigious Widen Almanack due to pressure of work. 'My life is not entirely occupied with cricket and there are other things I wish to do. There is so much cricket played these days, both internationally and at domestic first-class level, that it is not possible to edit Wisden on a part-time basis, it requires a full-time commitment which I am not able to give." News about Gerry's landmark achievement surfaced when Indian cricket writer D.J. 'Dicky' Rutnagur inquired from Graeme Wright, mentioning that he had been contributing stories for Wisden for 40 years and wanted to know whether he would be the oldest contributor to Wisden. |
