Kayts Committee report ready The committee appointed to probe the alleged assault incident between the LTTE and the Army/Navy on June 20 in Kayts has completed its inquiry and is due to hand over its report to the Secretary, Defence, on Tuesday. The President of the committee, Former Air Force Commander Air Vice Marshal Harry Goonatilake said that he had an informal discussion on July 15 at the Jaffna Kachcheri with the heads of the Army, Navy and Police, Vice Chancellor of the university, Government Agent, SLMM Jaffna heads and a few others before recording the other statements. Statements have been recorded from eight persons including two LTTE members of 15 people who had been present at the Public sittings held for four days from July 16 at the Kachcheri, Jaffna. Former Jaffna Municipal Commissioner, C.V.K. Sivaghanam and Attorney-at-law Oliver Weerasena were the other members of the committee. (rk) |
