Chinese fireworks will illuminate opening ceremony of Asian Athletic C'ships by LESLIE FERNANDO The Amateur Athletic Association of Sri Lanka has organised a training workshop today for Liaison Officers of the Asian Athletic Championships at the World Trade Centre (East Tower) from 8.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. Registration will commence at 8 a.m. and all selected Liaison Officers are requested to attend this training program. Johnston Fernando, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports will be the chief guest. The Liaison Officers also are requested to contact Tissa Samarasinghe Secretary, Reception and Protocol Committee. All Liaison Officers selected for the forthcoming Asian Athletic Championships will also be at the Sugathadasa Stadium for the National Athletic Championships today as a part of their familiarisation program. Johnston Fernando, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, on behalf of the Sri Lanka Government has requested the government of People's Republic of China to provide fireworks for the fireworks display during the grand opening ceremony of the Asian Athletic Championships on August 8 night. The Chinese Government in a communique to the Sports Minister has readily agreed to provide the necessary fireworks. It's 11 days to go for the 43-nation Asian Athletic Championships. The AAA has made all final arrangements to make this event a great success. The Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited (ANCL) (Print Media sponsor) and Dialog GSM (Sri Lanka team sponsor and official web hoster) are two of the six Gold sponsors of the event. |
