Samba, Salsa, Rumba ... soak to the gills with Latino and the snazzy steps could really cool spin you bedazzled and befuddled .... For the sassy and the sophisticated, and the young and the old, the allure of Dancesport, or Ballroom and Latin American dancing, seems to be heating up! For the last eleven years, Footwork and its Managing Director, Dharshan Wijesooriya, have stirred up great things for Dance fans with Dancesport Championships. The latest is that he will produce the first ever International Dancesport Championship in the country in March next year with 15 more countries flying in. But, before that, kick your heels, tap your toes and get ready for Dancesport 2002, the 8th Footwork Dancesport Championship, sponsored by Carlsberg, at 6.30 p.m. on August 4 at Hilton Colombo. The event will have participants from Singapore, Malaysia and six local schools - Naomi Rajaratnam's School of Ballroom Dancing, El Latino, Dance World, Strict Tempo Dance School, Ravi De Abrew's Dance Centre and Prince Ratnam's School of Ballroom Dancing, and, for the first time, Gateway International School. Buy a ticket from the special events desk, Colombo Hilton, and see how they vie for the Ballroom titles, Waltz, Quick Step, Slow Foxtrot, Tango and the Viennese Waltz and the Latin American titles, Cha Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Boble and the Jive. And the scintillating exhibition dancing by Vincent and Flavia, the 2002 UK 10 Dance Champions. |
