Pull-out from schools, temples on time Forces maintain N-E strong points

The Armed Forces are continuing to hold their positions in all areas of the North and East even as troops stationed in civilian installations such as schools and temples,completed their pull-out from these places last week. Defence officials said that ,in keeping with the ceasefire time table, the troops have shifted their strong points from the civilian installations to new positions.

Forty seven schools in the Jaffna peninsula, seven in the Vavuniya district, eight in Trincomalee, four in Batticaloa and one in Mannar were occupied by the Forces, military spokesman Brigadier Sanath Karunaratne said.Two buildings of Hartley College, Pt. Pedro which was occupied by the Army, for nearly six years also was among the vacated schools. The keys were handed over to the Principal, Murugupillai Sripathy in presence of Brigade Commander Point Pedro, educational authorities and politicians.

Meanwhile, the Morakkottanchenai Ramakrishna Mission School was handed over to educational authorities after completing repairs. GOC 23 Division Major General S. Tennakoon was present on the occasion, when a consignment of sports items were gifted to the school.
